Summer School

Since opening our doors as a summer school in 1979, over 50,000 students have benefited from our expert language tuition.

For the first time in its history, the ICS summer school will provide a residential structure close to our campus to accommodate up to 60 students. Our resident pupils will benefit from going on full day excursions every Saturday and Sunday of summer school. These excursions will be open to all our students and their parents.

The programme provides students with ‘a British style’ school experience which places the focus on developing a command of English language skills in academic / school subjects.

Each week focuses on a particular theme, such as culture, history, commerce, or the environment. The thematic nature of the course means students learn within a meaningful context and will not repeat the same lesson nor excursion no matter when they arrive or for how long they stay.

This unique course promotes the use of English skills through everyday conversation and increasing comprehension and fluency. Each week is designed around a different theme, for instance: Technology and Innovation, Art & Culture. Focused input in a classroom setting during the morning sessions prepares students for the afternoon trip that extends themes developed in the morning. 

As well as discovering popular London sites and those lesser known, students will have plenty of opportunities to master new language, develop their meta-cognitive skills (Approaches to Learning) e.g. monitoring own progress, planning tasks, questioning skills as well as soft skills such as problem solving, team work, decision making, emotional intelligence throughout the course.

This intensive two-week course prepares students for the IELTS International English Language Testing Service and supports them in their school academic orientation/ university research (orientation interview, university visits) and university applications (resume development, personal statement drafting and university pre-enrolment mock interview).
